Participatory Research

Shaping research together
Participatory research means that people with intellectual disabilities are actively involved as co-researchers throughout the entire research process. They contribute their perspectives, develop research questions together with us, and actively participate in shaping the studies. This close collaboration helps us better interpret the data.
Our goal is to make research as relevant and useful as possible for the target audience. We believe that research should not be conducted about people, but together with them.

Working together as equals

Strengthening perspectives & self-representation
People with intellectual disabilities actively participate in every step of our research—from research question formulation to analysis. Their perspectives help shape the process.
Our research is based on mutual respect, shared decision-making, and genuine collaboration. We create space for dialogue: open, appreciative, and equal.
Our research empowers people to represent their own perspectives. This makes topics that would otherwise be overlooked visible – and everyday experiences become relevant research topics.
You can find more about participatory research on this YouTube channel of the MiT-Sprache Team.
Here, people with learning difficulties share their perspectives in german – directly and independently.
