Inclusion – in research, education, and practice.

How visible are people with intellectual disabilities within the healthcare system? And how well are healthcare professionals prepared to meet their needs? These questions are at the heart of the contribution by Lebenshilfe Styria featuring Dr. Elisabeth Zeilinger.


The discussion highlights that there is a lack of systematic preparation, accessible communication, and reliable data – resulting in inconsistent care. Too often, inclusion depends on the commitment of individuals rather than being structurally embedded.


Dr. Zeilinger not only points out existing gaps but also presents ways forward: through participatory research, targeted education, and an approach to healthcare that consistently keeps inclusion in mind.
