Our Visit to MIA Melk

In April, our team visited the MedInklusions Outpatient Clinic (MIA) at the Melk Regional Hospital. The MIA Outpatient Clinic is designed for people with intellectual disabilities  who require a specialised, in-depth assessment at the regional hospital following an evaluation by their primary care physician. The clinic’s staff are specially trained in working with people with intellectual disabilities.

During our visit, we learned how the clinic structures its daily routine and processes to provide the best possible support for people with intellectual disabilities. We were particularly impressed by the team’s working methods and their person-centred approach.

We also participated in a networking meeting with directors of residential facilities in Lower Austria. The discussions highlighted the importance and value of the MIA’s services for residents and care teams. We were deeply impressed by the genuine appreciation, pragmatic exchange and strong commitment to inclusive healthcare, and we will incorporate these into our research. We look forward to continuing this dialogue and are grateful for the exchange.
